Obamacare Math
"and you just have to be intellectually honest enough to do critical thought".
I agree
Forget the rhetoric and assuming the American people actually can see outside their borders. You guys have a great country, and I'm guessing intelligent people.
We dumb asses in Australia, and dare I say it - the rest of the westernized world have universal health care.
There was a time when I had no health insurance. As an Australian citizen, if I get sick I get looked after at the government's expense. That include getting prescription drugs at $30 per script.
I've been surgically operated on a number of times. I broke my wrist. Got it plastered. Broke it again. Got it plastered. Broke it again. Had a bone graft surgically put in. Got an infected bursa in my elbow requiring a week in hospital on antibiotics. I had a sub-mandibular gland removed (under general anesthetic). Cost to me? My time. $nil. How long did I have to wait to get those operations? a few days while they organised a bed.
Now I have health insurance, I get access to other things, like dentistry, I get to chose the hospital. I get to chose the doctor. I get expensive add-ons like an insulin pump. The insurance costs me and my wife $75 per week.
So seeing we are talking about math and thinking critically, why would a capitalist system like the US not have forces driving down the cost of health care because of demand? You have 380Mill. You also have economies of scale that far outweigh Australia.
Why would the government in the US currently spend more per citizen on health care than Australia does? Mathematically, you should be all getting better health care than Australia.
I think you should be asking why, for more dollars than Australia, you don't have universal healthcare.
